The Remedy Mission Statement

The Remedy is a grass-roots, educational organization that provides a nexus for the advocacy of natural living, personal wholeness, self-sufficiency, and ecological responsibility within the emerging paradigm of connectivity, cooperation and service to others.

The Remedy Story

The Remedy is based on the experience and revelations of our Founder Curtis Pore’s battle with cancer. It started simply, as a personal search to find a solution to his health problem. Until he realized the similarities between disease in the body, and dis-ease in the mind, heart and spirit.

The cancerous cells in his body were reacting very much like a disenfranchised person in the community.

When Curtis got his diagnosis, his instinct to survive initiated a flurry of questions to his doctor about how to become well again. He was fully ready to change any and all aspects of his life and asked his doctor to give her best recommendations on diet and holistic treatment.

But his questions were met with a blank stare.

After a moment of silence his doctor replied, simply, “Curtis, All we know is that you take this pill every day until it kills you or the cancer does.”

That pronouncement launched a movement.

Curtis would not accept that answer.

He knew that any true path back to wellness would be forged by himself and began to study the nature of cancer and its devastating effects to the body as a whole.

Three things struck him about the difference between a cancer cell and a normal one:

Loss of Communication

Cancer cells don’t talk to the normal cells around them, normal signal receptors are disabled; the cell is no longer communicating with the whole.

Loss of Functioning

Cancer cells no longer function the way they were intended. They are no longer a  part of a heart, liver or kidney. They have forgotten their place within the larger whole.

Genetic Instability

Cancer cells are unstable.  the DNA within a cancer cell becomes increasingly abnormal, actually driving the cell to stay cancerous. It creates a new normal for itself that supersedes previous genetic coding.

Essentially, a cancer cell is alienated, purposeless and strangely compelled to stay that way.

How dangerously familiar that sounded to his life  and so many around him. How eerily close to the conditions of the world?

This simple revelation changed everything.

If sick bodies, sick minds, sick hearts and even sick communities had a common root, they had a common remedy. The capacity for both suffering and healing lay within each of us, and most importantly,

We already have the tools to thrive.

Curtis began to shape a new way of life that was dedicated to healing not only the cells in his body, but also his whole self, those around him and ultimately the whole planet.

His dedication to organic food and pure water began a journey that led him to meditation and self-reflection. He was driven to find a reset button that would replenish and rejuvenate his entire being.

Along his path, he encountered many people creating beautiful new solutions to the problems of living a healthy, authentic life. Small groups forging a new way forward in an increasingly unsustainable world. He became grateful for the hope they represented for a vibrant, thriving society.

Over five years after diagnosis, Curtis is continuing to seek out individuals and communities who are taking action to heal themselves and live in a new and responsible way. His goal has been to reach out and connect these small islands to each other in an expanding network of resources called The Remedy.
